The Verant Group is owned by 3 dudes who all met in Pacific Beach, and later formed The Tavern in Peebz. They went on to form 2 more Pacific Beach bars that all have the same generic, surfboardie, brodown look and atmosphere. In 2007 they all realized that yuppies, hipsters, and all the douchebags that would live in Peebs but can’t afford it have finally got real jobs and don’t mind spending $200 a night in order to get wasted, so they bought Shooterz. Taking back North Park from the gays wooo! Two out of the three owners are recent transplants, one from New York (Upstate, not the cool part), and one that self-admittably calls himself “a NorCal boi”. The other douchebag was a Pacific Beach bartender that is a people person, so he sits on a slew of Pacific Beach business associations and is the newest member of the North Park Business Improvement District (which is a fancy way of saying Douchebags That Think They Own The Place And Waste $30,000 Trying To Figure Out How To Kick Out The Homeless).

I think these guys will make tons of money with their 15 HD widescreen TV’s, funky eclectic beats, and $6 drinks. CANNOT WAIT

Today at 2:11PM PST, Spindler was banned from punkboard, punkboards first such move since its present incarnation. The relief felt from such a simple action is immense. No more attention whoring. No more “me too” posts, except from Annie Metal. Here is a graph of current punkboard tardtivity:

As you can clearly see, banning Spindler was a painless way to increase punkboarder’s intelligence and productivity. The only short-term negative consequence of such an action is that Spindler will have less sex, hence a dry spell for most punkboarders is in the cards.

It didn’t hurt that the punkboard is dying, or at least will be going through some major changes soon. The admin would rather have fun while wasting money, rather than experience needle-poking-brain for a couple more weeks and waste money at the same time.

Amanda Snuffaluffagus Schendel just keeps on mashing her keyboard and creating new pointless threads so that everyone on punkboard can come to appreciate her hard thread-makin’ work. Or maybe to appreciate her IRL works, like having a free yardsale errr…event in the park, complete with records and a bunch of shit no one wants.

Heres the exciting conclusion to the Manliness Contest:

It was a tough race. Many displays of machismo and anti-machismo. Wrangler disgusted a whole generation of punk boarders with his tales of debauchery. Karl called out every single dude in a strong display combining fearlessness and geographic distance. Garbage Man continues his impressive run of motorcycle riding, building, and overall hard work. Ali bought a bike, hosed it off, and stuck it in his garage with the rest like a candy ass pansy with no cojones. Krap Nek proved there are many ways to be manly, just in time for National Coming Out Day, while StevePirates showed there are numerous ways to be completely the opposite of a man.

There were some disappointments as well: Though it’s obviously manly to destroy a woman emotionally, Wake Up Call focused too much on Spindler and was disqualified, as she’s not technically a woman in any sense our judges recognize. Meanwhile, dark horse candidates like dustin and derek spent all week talking about computers like a couple of Shia LeBeoufs…SnakeyDave went on his hiking trip a week too early to count…and the detective didn’t even get a girl pregnant this week.

Ultimately, like Project Runway keeps doing season after season, the rules have to be bent a little to recognize the quality of the candidates:

1st Place Co-Winners: Garbage Man and Cheeseburger
Runner Up: Krap Nek
Miss Congeniality: Ali

First Prize: in this unique circumstance, both Garbage Man and Cheeseburger get the full prize — choose any female who has posted on the board in the contest period, and have your way with her for two hours. One new caveat for special circumstances: winners can choose the same female, but cannot enforce any overlap in their two-hour periods in an attempt to cross swords.

i too feel your pain at the gentrification of north park and the sacrifice of community-centric businesses (i.e. our beloved bars) to make way for profit driven, soulless clubs that cater to the vacant north park neo-yuppie trash. i’ll pay a little more for drinks and i’ll pay a reasonable cover to support music and local business because i understand that my patronage is almost a social responsibility to fight gentrification. i will not set foot or hand over any cash to businesses like U-31, the office, bluefoot or any other facsimile thereof, or any other establishment that seeks to prosper at the detriment of another business or the community at large. i have very little but vehement hatred for the heartless, soul-sucking, brain-raping and vacuous voids that would enjoy a night at such places. i mourn not necessarily for the loss of this place or that, but having to witness the gasping death of establishments the measured profit in not in terms of just a number, but in the strength and sincerity of our community.

Now, lets talk about James V. O’Brien the third. Dimmy as he became affectionately known, is a HAM radio operator (callsign W4AMP). He somehow stumbled upon Eraza, which will be detailed in a future article. Quick refresher: the San Diego Punk Messageboard was hosted by Free Radio San Diego for quite awhile. Everything was good other than the random bannings, sandboxin’, and filtered words. The admin of the FRSD punkboard decided to code his own messageboard portal, because buying or leasing vBulletin is NOT PUNK. So, he made his own messageboard, which was wrought with problems. Quotes were screwy for quite a bit, oftentimes critical functions just didn’t work, you get the idea. The basic premise was that Eraza was to be ad-supported, but all advertising revenue was going to be donated to local charities. Good idea in theory, notsomuch in practice.

So, back to Dimmy O’Brien. Dimmy was a former sailor, as well as the operator of Eraza. They got along for quite awhile, then Eraza posters started noticing how dim godzilla/max tout was (Dimmy’s screennames). Dimmy got into quite a tizzy, and started leaving negative and anyonmous comments for posters. Posters bascially revolted, Eraza’s operator realized how much of a loose cannon he was, and he was banned.

Enter Dimmy’s reign of retard on punkboard. 3-22-06. I believe that was Dimmy’s first appearance, in downtownpunkchick’s I hate commercials thread. Notice how he’s pretty much ignored, and denies knowing who godzilla is…himself.

A week later and hes back, but this time he actually makes a thread. Max tout unveils the most wicked pwn ever…calling damnit a birdchest. What the hell? Of course he also accuses the board of being a bunch of liberal commie pinko drug dealers and users.

The lameness continues. Max tout is so annoying, certain hackerish types get involved and run background checks on his publically available FCC HAM licensing information, as seen here.
